The 24X7 water supply project's tenders would be issued within the next three months
The state urban development department has sent a letter to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), directing it to conduct the tender process for the project. The letter stated, "The new tender process should be conducted in such a manner that there is a large scope for competition and terms should be based on central vigilance commission's guiding principles
The letter also asked the civic body to ensure that the rates were not beyond the prescribed limits. "It will be PMC's responsibility to carry out the tender process in a transparent manner," it added. V G Kulkarni, the head of PMC's water department, said, "We will carry out the tender process according to the state government's directive
The PMC in August had scrapped the controversial tender for its 24X7 water supply project. The tenders worth Rs 2,322 crore were opened in the first week of July. The bidders allegedly quoted a project cost 26% above the estimates of the PMC, triggering controversy
