The Centre gave its nod for 47 new road over-bridges (ROBs) in Bihar. Railway minister Piyush Goyal gave the sanction

Bihar road construction minister Nand Kishore Yadav had gone to New Delhi where he held an hour-long meeting with the railway minister. After returning from New Delhi, Nand Kishore said the Centre had finally agreed to build 47 ROBs in the state

The state government will bear 50 per cent of the cost of constructing the ROBs and has requested that an agency be involved too," Nand Kishore told The Telegraph. The Union minister has given his nod. It was decided that the detailed project report (DPR) would be prepared by one agency and it would also include building of an approach road

Indian Railway Construction Company (IRCON)has been chosen to prepare a detailed project report (DPR)

The demand for 47 ROBs was pending before the Centre for the past two years after it gave in-principle approval for it. The state government's initial demand was for 53 ROBs

The project was pending for the past two years, but Piyush Goyal ji finally gave approval," Nand Kishore said. "I've also requested the Union minister to allow construction of ROBs over railway crossings on national and state highways and other roads where traffic is heavy." Rules say ROBs can be built over railway crossings if it fulfils the parameter - traffic vehicular unit (TVU) of one-lakh vehicles a day

The meeting also discussed acquisition of railway land on which the R-Block-Digha railway tracks are. At present only one local train runs on this track and very few people use the service

The state government has for long been trying to acquire this plot to build a four-lane road to connect R-block with Digha. "The central government has given in-principle approval," Nand Kishore said. "The railway minister assured me the central government will soon send Bihar government a fresh proposal and land would be handed over after fulfiling certain conditions
