Value: 25 Crore | Margao, Karmali and Thivim stations of the Konkan Railway in Goa are set to undergo a facelift with the Union ministry of tourism having approved Rs 25 crore for their upgrade
A press note by the Konkan Railway Corporation Limited issued on the occasion of its Foundation Day on October 15 said various passenger amenities works of Rs 5.85 crore has also been completed under the Members of Parliament Local Area Development scheme on the Konkan Railway route in Goa
While doubling of tracks on a 46-km stretch between Roha-Veer section will be over by December 2019, electrification of the entire Konkan Railway route will be completed by 2020 at an estimated cost Rs 1,100 crore
The work on construction of 10 new stations — Indapur, Goregoan Road, Sape Wamane, Kalbani, Kadwai, Verawali, Kharepatan, Achirne, Mirjan, Innanje — and eight loop lines was also in progress and likely to be completed by December 2019, the press note added
During the financial year 2017-18, Konkan Railway achieved a net profit of Rs 126 crore which is double the net profit of the last financial year. “The project revenue of Konkan Railway also registered a significant growth during the year. The turnover of the company during the financial year 2017-18 was Rs 2,483 crore and a growth of 15% has been observed as compared to the previous financial year,” the note stated
The railway ministry has also approved the increase in authorised equity share capital from Rs 806 crore to Rs 4,000 crore for execution of ongoing projects and a major capacity augmentation of the Konkan Railway route, it said
It is also constructing a railway siding for Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd, the note said
