Electric vehicle (EV) start-up Raptee Energy has rolled out the first batch of its first electric motorcycle from its manufacturing plant in Chennai. Raptee was launched in 2019 as an electric alternative to the mid-premium motorcycle segment.
The company’s full-stack electric motorcycle runs on high voltage powertrain technology for high performance of the two-wheeler, and is a technology which drives the passenger car industry. These motorcycles are compatible with CCS2 charging points, and once in the market. Raptee’s assembly line in Porur, Chennai is fully operational, with the plant boasting a capacity of around one lakh units. The first batch of motorcycles will undergo rigorous testing including ARAI certification and on-road safety checks. Alse, the commercial launch may be within this quarter.
The company will set up distribution networks across India starting from Chennai, comprising online and offline channels. The bike is set to be priced in the Rs 2.5-lakh range. The EV company set up its manufacturing plant alongside its R&D centre in Chennai in June 2023, and is infusing Rs 85 crore in the facility.
Raptee Energy also makes its own battery packs. Raptee has raised around USD five million in funding to date and is also in the process of raising a new round. The start-up also plans to open its first store in the city, which will serve as a point of sale and would be a brand experience centre as well.
