Value: 192 Crore | The Rs 192-crore channelisation of the Pabbar river, an ambitious project of former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh in Rohru, remains a non-starter ever after four year for want of funds
Singh represented Rohru several times, which was part of his erstwhile Bushair state, and wanted the Pabbar channelisation to beautify Rohru, the second biggest
towns after Shimla in the district, to make it a tourist destination by opening the scenic Chanshal valley, Chandra Nahan lake and remote Dodra and Kuar to tourists
The detailed project report (DPR) of Rs 192-crore project, prepared by the Irrigation and Public Health Department for the first phase of the channelisation, was approved by the Centre under its flood protection scheme
But the Ministry of Economic Affairs did not allocate funds after the BJP ousted the Virbhadra government, revealed insiders
According to IPH engineers, the project involved channelisation of the Tikkar khud, a tributary of the Pabbar, from Kashani to Hatkoti in the phase-1. In the second phase, the Pabbar, which is famous for fresh water trout, from Sandasu to Rohru, was to be protected from soil erosion by flash floods
Virbhadra Singh had announced the Pabbar channelisation project in September 2014 in Rohru, declaring that the design was ready and the work would be allotted to an agency. But nothing has happened so far, the sources added
IPH Engineering-in-Chief Anil Bahari said the project was approved by the Centre, but the funds were awaited as some funding agency was required because the Centre had refused to fund projects under the Flood Control Management Programme
