Value: 19 Crore | The Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) is set to build four new lecture halls for the Goa Medical College (GMC), Bambolim, at an estimated cost of Rs 19 crore
The GMC, the state’s only government medical college, currently has three lecture halls, built a few years ago
An official said that the corporation wants to complete the project within a year. The project cost, the official said, would also cover plumbing, electrical elevator, fire-fighting system and acoustic work
All the new lecture halls will be fully air-conditioned, with ceiling mounted projectors and power screens
A GSIDC official also said that the corporation hopes to rebuild the college building which houses the administrative office, dean’s office, and five departments. A part of the building has been in shambles for a while now, and has been repaired several times. The elevator in the building, too, hasn’t worked for months now
Some fear that the building may collapse at any time and cause irreparable loss. The official at the corporation said that they would start construction as soon as the GMC administration makes available alternative land or vacates the existing building to facilitate building of the new one
