Value: 2 Crore | Residents of MS Enclave, Dhakoli, and Wadhwa Nagar, Zirakpur, are set to have respite from the problem of waterlogging during monsoon with the Zirakpur Municipal Council starting work on the Rs 2 crore drainage project
Sources said the project would be completed in a time-bound manner. Deepinder Singh Dhillon, general secretary, PPCC, who laid the foundation stone of the project on Sunday, said the state government had sanctioned Rs 2 crore for laying new sewer pipes in low-lying areas at MS Enclave and Wadhwa Nagar. He said Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh had sanctioned the amount to complete the project in a phased manner
Dhillon said MS Enclave lacked a proper rainwater drainage system. “The accumulated rainwater, coupled with overflowing manholes, causes immense damage to merchandise kept in shops and other commercial establishments and households as water enters shops and houses due to poor drainage. This has been happening for the past several years,” he said
After laying the pipelines, all roads would be recarpeted and the project for installing LED lights would also be completed soon, he said. He also directed Municipal Council officials to ensure quality work. Meanwhile, MC officials said they would float tenders in a week’s time and work on laying of drainage pipes would be completed on time
