Value: 1.50 Crore | Finance Minister Manpreet Badal performed the groundbreaking ceremony of laying a sewer line in Kartar Colony and Sucha Singh Nagar here.
The Finance Minister issued a grant of Rs1.5 crore, which will be spent on the project that is likely to be completed in four months.
A sewer line of around 6 km will be laid as part of the project. According to residents, they have been grappling with poor sewerage connection for the past 12 years. But laying of the new sewer line will provide them much-needed relief, they added.
Earlier, Manpreet listened to grievances of residents at his office and tried to address issues on the spot.
Besides, some residents also came up with the problems of roof collapse and damaged to their houses after incessant rain recently. Manpreet assured them of adequate financial assistance. Later, he attended bhog ceremonies at different places in the city. The Finance Minister also conducted a meeting with representatives of different religious groups and non-profit organisations in the city. He exhorted them to cut across party and religious lines to celebrate the 550th birthday anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev.
He also reviewed arrangements made ahead of the celebrations. Manpreet said adequate arrangements were already in place and soon a management committee would be formed for the purpose.
To adorn, the city will be illuminated with lights and other decorative items. He insisted that the message of Guru Nanak Dev must be spread so that everybody could imbibe in the true spirit.
Later, he participated in a plantation drive. As many as 550 saplings were planted alongside the road outside the Civil Hospital.
