Value: 140 Crore | Here is good news for thousands of vehicle drivers who use the 41.535 kilometers stretch of city Ring Road. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has floated two separate tenders for the upgradation of the Ring Road at an estimated cost of Rs. 139.99 crore.
A senior official from the NHAI informed that the first tender is related to developing the Ring Road stretch between the Hinkal and the Columbia Asia hospital. The length of this stretch is 10 kilometers. The works will be taken up at an estimated cost of Rs. 13.42 crore. The successful contractor has been given six months' time to complete the works.
The second tender is pertaining to the remaining stretch which is 31.535 kilometers. The estimated project cost is Rs 126.57 crore. The successful bidder will be given 11 months' time to complete the work.
Both the works will be executed under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) module," explained an officer privy to the developments.
The Hinkal- Columbia Asia hospital stretch tender works are approved. The second tender has been just floated now," he said.
The proposed works include the construction of service roads in several places, RCC drains, construction of retaining walls in the stipulated places, median plantation, etc.
A lot of complaints about the Ring Road maintenance. Once the works are completed, the road will get a new look," he explained.
Meanwhile, the drivers feel that all these works are of urgent need. "There were a number of complaints about the Ring Road. The quality of road was criticised by one and all. Hope once the works are completed the Ring Road which is like a jewel to the city will get a new look," said Jyothi Adishwar, who is working in a school.
