The Minister for Municipal Administration, K N Nehru initiated the development works in Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu involving an outlay of Rs 1010.19 crore on 8 May, 2023
Under the plan, the underground drainage project will be executed by the TWAD Board in the newly-added areas with an outlay of Rs 860.80 crore
The other projects are for the laying of a model road along the Race Course at Rs 40.67 crore, development of Selvampathi and Kumarasamy tanks at Rs 31.65 crore, establishment of sewage treatment plant (STP) with a capacity to treat 40 MLD at Nanjundapuram under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), and improvements to Krishnampathi tank at a cost of Rs 19.36 crore
At Pollachi in Coimbatore, the Minister dedicated to the city an underground drainage (UGD) network established for the selection-grade Municipality at a cost of Rs 170.23 crore
The sewage treatment plant (STP) established under the project has a capacity to treat 11 MLD, and further on, the treated water will be utilised for agricultural purposes. The project will fulfil the requirements of over one lakh of estimated population by 2045
