The construction work for the multipurpose irrigation project at Chheligada in R Udayagiri block of Gajapati district in Odisha has received the go-ahead from the state government
When completed, the Rs 936 crore dam project will irrigate 6,260 hectares of land in Gajapati and Ganjam districts. Moreover, it will ensure drinking water supply to Berhampur and generate 36 KW of hydroelectric power
The project, whose tender has been floated, is expected to be completed in 2025 v The water of Chheligada reservoir will be diverted through a 1.2 km long and three mtrs. wide tunnel to Ghodahada river. Work on the tunnel is almost completed, and water will be released through the tunnel in September, 2023
The people displaced due to the project will be rehabilitated to seven colonies in Ganjam and Gajapati districts
