Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL) are set to open 6,609 new fuel stations across Uttar Pradesh. The oil marketing companies (OMCs) are stepping up efforts to expand the network and cater to urban areas, upcoming highways, agricultural regions and remote areas in the state
IOCL will open 3,275 fuel stations, along with BPCL at 1,834 and HPCL at 1,500 respectively. In Lucknow, OMCs will open 232 fuel stations, against the current 259. Currently, the state has a total of 10,170 fuel stations across its 75 districts
The expansion will help meet the growing energy needs and create employment opportunities in retail outlet dealership, wherein people who have land parcels along the highways and other roads have the option to either lease their land or own-and-operate a fuel station
The OMCs have invited applications for setting up fuel stations, allowing for online option and simplified forms for the dealer selection process. Further, the selection will be done using a computerized draw of lots or bid opening by an independent agency to ensure transparency
