Foxconn is planning to submit an application under the government's semiconductor scheme for setting up two fab plants on its own. Currently, the company is exploring optimal partners, both in India as well as abroad
Of these two fab plants, one will be a compound semiconductor plant based on gallium nitride to make chips used widely in power electronics, electric vehicles (two-wheelers) and telecom devices, and the other fab based on silicon. Moreover, based on its specifications, the fabs built on gallium will range between USD 80-100 million to USD 500 million
The company seeks to produce a range of chips such as 14, 28, and 40 nanometre (nm) and may also bring in a Taiwanese fab company as a technology or joint venture (JV) partner
the modified program for semiconductors and display fabs ecosystems, offering a 50 percent incentive on the project cost, has been opened for new players, and the deadline has been extended till December next year
Foxconn made an exit from its JV with Vedanta to set up a USD 19.5-billion fab plant to manufacture 28 nm and 40 nm chips at Dholera, Gujarat
