Andhra Pradesh is likely to get a banana processing cluster, which will come up in Pulivendula of YSR district under the Scheme of Fund for Regeneration of Traditional Industries (SFURTI) of the Union Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises
The proposed cluster, with an estimated cost of Rs 121 crore, will have the capability to process 1.08 lakh tpa of bananas
the 9.22 acres of land in Pulivendula has already been handed over to the AP Food Processing Society, which is the implementing agency, and furthermore, Society for Innovation and Incubation Development (SIID) will provide technical support to this cluster
Measures to set up ten fibre-extracting machines from banana stems in villages in the region would also be initiated
