In a significant development, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) formalized a contract valued at ?588.68 crore with the state-owned Telecommunications Consultants India Limited (TCIL) recently. The agreement is set to propel the Indian Coast Guard's (ICG) digital capabilities through the implementation of the "Digital Coast Guard (DCG)" project, fostering centralized monitoring and management of deployed applications and assets
This strategic project, executed under the Buy (Indian) category, signifies a major leap in technological advancement for the ICG. The DCG project encompasses the establishment of an advanced data center, a robust Disaster Recovery Data Centre, enhanced connectivity across ICG sites, and the development of the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, as officially outlined by the Ministry of Defence
The MoD emphasized that the project incorporates secured Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) and Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) connectivity, positioning itself at the forefront of cutting-edge defence technology. At its core, the DCG project features the establishment of a Tier-III standard Data Centre equipped with the latest technological capabilities. Serving as the nerve center, this facility enables centralized monitoring and management of applications deployed by the ICG, ensuring vigilant oversight of critical IT assets, as highlighted by the Ministry
The project is expected to generate approximately one and a half lakh man-days over a span of five years, fostering active participation from diverse sectors of the Indian industries. This initiative is seen as a significant contribution to the government's efforts to achieve 'Atmanirbharta' (self-reliance) in the defense sector, as articulated by the Ministry of Defence. The DCG project is poised to play a pivotal role in the technological progression of the Indian Coast Guard, reinforcing its capabilities for enhanced operational efficiency and national security
