EMotorad, engaged in the manufacture of electric cycles, has plans to expand its production capabilities and will establish an electric cycle gigafactory in Pune, Maharashtra. The gigafactory would be constructed in four phases.
The Phase-1 operations are slated to begin in August this year. The new facility, to be spread over 2,40,000 sq. ft in the first phase, will focus on manufacturing of giga components, including battery, motor, display, and charger. With an initial capacity of five lakh electric cycles each year, the gigafactory is expected to meet the demand from India as well as globally.
This factory marks a significant step forward as the company can penetrate deeper into the European and North American markets, and it will open opportunities to host clients from around the world. Further on, it aims to inspire start-ups from all domains, and firmly position India in the global landscape in manufacturing. The company achieved 370 percent domestic growth last year, and emerged as the biggest exporter of electric cycles from India.
