The Tamil Nadu government plans to build a greenfield international airport in the industrial town of Hosur, bordering Bengaluru, on nearly 2,000 acres. The Hosur airport will have the capacity to annually handle around three crore passengers, as announced by Chief Minister MK Stalin in the Assembly on 27 June, 2024.
The state government is implementing a long-term plan to develop Hosur as an important economic growth centre with modern infrastructure. A new master plan has been prepared and is nearing completion. An airport at Hosur will enhance connectivity, and contribute to the overall socioeconomic development covering not only Hosur, but also Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri as neighbouring districts, while also providing a significant boost to various parts of Bengaluru.
Hosur has been attracting investments in the field of electronics and electric vehicles (EVs) in the last few years. The Parandur airport will have a capacity to annually handle 10 crore passengers.,
The present Hosur airport is owned by Taneja Aerospace and Aviation. Hosur is also home to major manufacturing industries including Ashok Leyland, Caterpillar, Sundaram Fasteners, and Schaeffler. Ola has set up a huge e-vehicle factory in the Krishnagiri district. Tata Electronics is investing ?Rs ,763 crore in Krishnagiri district to manufacture mobile phone components.
