Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy (SWREL) has received an order for the procurement, erection, testing & commissioning of 500x2 (1,000 MWhr) standalone largest battery energy storage (BESS) plant in Rajasthan. This GWhr scale project is India’s BESS project till date and among the single largest stationary GWhr project in a single location globally, which is to be executed by 2025.
The company also secured a 20 MW floating solar project in Karnataka from the same client, which marks the third such floating solar project being executed by the company in the country. The total order value for both projects is approx. Rs 328 crore.
As per National Electricity Plan (NEP) 2023 of Central Electricity Authority (CEA), the energy storage capacity requirement is projected at 82.37 GWh (47.65 GWh from PSP and 34.72 GWh from BESS) in 2026-27. With this order, therefore, SWREL will position itself well in India’s BESS market.
