New completion dates have been announced for SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, Odisha which is being developed into an AIIMS+ facility at an estimated cost of Rs 4,474 crore. Though work started in January, 2022, construction work of only 32 percent of clinical facility and 28 percent of residential facility is over, said Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling in the Assembly.
Two construction companies are executing the mega project. The clinical package should have been completed by 09 July, 2024; however the new deadline is December 2025, he informed. The contract agreement value of the first package is Rs 2,636.2 crore. The general medicine block will have 600 hospital beds, including 48 in ICU beds, and specialised medicine block will have 496 beds, including 67 ICU beds. Specialised surgery will accommodate 456 beds, including 88 ICU beds, whereas general surgery and trauma will accommodate 506 beds, including 63 ICU beds.
The residential package will have residential units and hostels for male and female students.The DAV SCB Medical School building will be constructed under this package. The new deadline for the second package is July 2025. The contract agreement value of this portion is Rs 888.5 crore.
SCB now has 2,132 beds,and the medical college has 250 MBBS seats.
