Torrent Power has received a letter of award (LoA) from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution (MSEDCL). The power generation company has secured a long-term supply order of 2,000 MW energy storage capacity from its InSTS-connected pumped hydro storage plant in the state.
This overall capacity of 2,000 MW is inclusive of 1,500 MW capacity for which a letter of intent (LoI) was already issued by MSEDCL on 17 September, 2024. The company has now received allotment of additional 500 MW capacity under the tender. InSTS is an integrated system of transmission and storage.
Under the energy storage facility agreement (ESFA), the company will make available to MSEDCL the contracted capacity capable of scheduled discharge of eight hours, with a maximum continuous five hours per day. The input energy for charging will be provided by MSEDCL.
MSEDCL will procure this capacity for a period of 40 years.
