BEML has been awarded a contract for design, manufacturing, and commissioning of two high-speed train sets from Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai.
The total contract value is Rs 866.87 crore, including the design cost, development cost, non-recurring charges, a one-time cost towards fixtures, tooling and testing facilities which are to be utilised for all future high-speed projects in India. The train sets will each comprise eight coaches, with a price of each coach set at Rs 27.86 crore.
The trains will feature a fully air-conditioned chair car configuration, and offer modern passenger amenities such as reclining and rotatable seats, provisions for passengers with restricted mobility, and onboard infotainment systems. The project will see indigenously designed and manufactured train sets with a test speed of 280 kmph, as per BEML.
The train sets will be built at the BEML’s Bengaluru rail coach complex and are scheduled for delivery by the end of 2026.
The ICF is a production unit of the Indian Railways.
