The tunnel construction for the underground section of Corridor-2 (CSA to Barra-8) of Kanpur Metro Rail Project is set to start soon. All components of the fifth tunnel boring machine (TBM) for the overall project were successfully lowered into the launching shaft at Rawatpur. Following this, assembly of the TBM parts and preparation for ‘initial drive' are underway. The underground station being constructed near the elevated station at Rawatpur will serve as a connection between both corridors of Metro.
Trains on this route will enter the underground section via the under-construction depot ramp near Agriculture University, and will pass through the Rawatpur, Kakadev, and Double Pulia underground stations before exiting the tunnel via the ramp. It will continue through an elevated section covering Vijaynagar Chauraha, Shastri Chowk, and Barra-7, finally reaching Barra-8.
The total length of the underground section for this corridor is approx. 4.10 km.
