Shri Manohar Lal, the Hon’ble Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, visited Puducherry to review the progress of various urban development schemes. The Union Territory administration updated him on initiatives under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). The Minister praised Puducherry’s efforts, particularly in implementing the PM SVANidhi and DAY NULM schemes, which have significantly benefited the local community.
Following his visit to Puducherry, Shri Manohar Lal assessed the progress of the Chennai Metro Rail project. The Government of India recently pledged support for Phase II of the Chennai Metro, covering 118.9 km with an estimated project cost of ?63,246 crore, which includes 76.3 km of elevated and 42.6 km of underground corridors. The Chief Minister expressed gratitude for this critical support. During the review, the Minister emphasized the need for enhanced use of the Integrated Command and Control Centre under the Smart Cities Mission.
He highlighted that India now boasts the third-largest metro network globally, trailing only China and the USA. With rapid metro expansion, India aims to become a global leader in metro connectivity, contributing to the vision of Viksit Bharat. The Minister reaffirmed the Ministry’s continued support for the Chennai Metro project.
