The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved two railway projects worth approximately Rs 6,798 crore.
The first project includes doubling of Narkatiaganj-Raxaul-Sitamarhi-Darbhanga & Sitamarhi-Muzaffarpur Sections (256 km). This will enhance connectivity to Nepal, the North-East, and border areas, facilitating both passenger and freight movement, and boosting regional socio-economic growth.
The other project entails new line construction- Errupalem-Amaravati-Namburu (57 km). This line, spanning Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, will strengthen connectivity between the NTR Vijayawada and Guntur districts, and Khammam district.
The projects will cover eight districts across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Bihar, extending the railway network by about 313 km and generating around 106 lakh human-days of employment. The new line will connect approximately 168 villages with a population of 12 lakh through 9 new stations, while the doubling project will benefit 388 villages and around 9 lakh residents in two aspirational districts, Sitamarhi and Muzaffarpur.
